Event Report Jindong 4-5 April 2015

Let’s start by saying that on this weekend an extremely small piece of history was created in WA’s motorcycling community with the first official Vinduro being held, thanks must go to:

  • Southern Capes Motorcycle Club for the use of their facilities and area thanks Avril and thanks Snowy for all your assistance.
  • Craig frost for his organising the use of the area and helping in the marking of the Loop and donation of the First Aid Kit.
  • Hayes and Ray Forsyth for tirelessly working to mark the loop and Hayes for his continual assistance regarding track safety over the weekend.
  • Kevin and Debbie Shaw for assistance in loop set up, sign on, bar assistance and everything else they could help with.
  • To Penny and Emilio Papiccio for the amazing timing sheet Penny had work on and Emilio for his assistance in marshalling at the check point. I know all those that enquired about their times etc. got instant response form the great work Penny had done, though it did cost me a day of feeding them.
  • Steve and Alison Melvin for signage and Alison for the raffle she ran.
  • Nick Maxfield for assisting in running the event.
  • Aaron Barclay who donated a CB base station.
  • Oops almost forgot Christine for taking time to get out and record the event and assisting wherever she could.

Thank you to anyone else I missed out. How can I forget the crèche ran by Lissy and Bec.

The event, well even though it was Easter our plan was to hopefully get 20 riders, we thought this to be a good number and Saturday 18 riders signed on and a further 2 on Sunday. I was a very happy and relieved person for all those that had put the work in.

Saturday did not take long for them to get into it, with the first casualty being the KDX of Trevor Bushell and though he tried all afternoon it just didn’t want to play and Tony Wilton having problems with the Suzi. Ray Williams and Ken McKay hammered out continuous loops I think they did about 10 each over the afternoon and as is the ability of this event went home to finish the housework for the wife. Our resident Pom Neil Stevens was also throwing down some loops and said he loved the sand. I don’t think you know what sand is yet Neil, we’ll find you some. Brent (have I got a KDX for you) got out their but apparently the rear suspension was having a problem with the weight!!! The Husky boys turned up later in the afternoon and fired up the big 390’s and had some fun. Kevin (wrong way) Shaw was forging new tracks, with a smile on his face and photographic evidence from Christine.

Saturday night was very social with it being Steve Melvin’s birthday and there was some great social interaction, Aaron Dollas won the raffle and I saw no chocolate coming my way. The end of the night was led by Brent (the raver) Arnoldi ably supported by the usual suspects.

There had been several donations of bike parts and equipment, with Trevor Bushell’s donation of new FOX protection vest being bought by Aaron, as well as plastics and Yamaha parts and manuals being snapped up. Nick Maxfield donated the proceeds of some PE’s that only needed slightly restoring to the club also. Thanks to all those who donated and those that bought.

Sunday morning saw our missing two riders appear and at 9am the loop was open. Penny and Emilio worked the check point to give us a clear defined loop and Penny had spent the previous weeks devising an excel spreadsheet for timing which a few helped her with by getting their laps timed and she was able to give instant results, even to the point of providing an overall result for those that assisted. Great work Penny and Em.

Troy Halden was having a ball on the CR even being able to practice lay down techniques in the gravel and honkey nuts. Birthday boy Steve was enjoying the PE at speed. John (Sid) Johnson a virgin in many ways found out he actually enjoyed this sort of event, though speaking to him on Monday was suffering for it. Neil was still circulating and had a smile from ear to ear. Nick decided he needed a new front brake lever as the one he had lost the battle with a tree. Trevor Bushell had swapped to an IT and managed a couple of loops.

At the end of the day, we got the best response possible. The loop was brilliant the format of what we are trying to achieve worked. Nobody complained, in fact they loved it. Constructive advice was given and taken as we want this to improve.

How good was it, well those who did not ride asked if we could make the next one a come try day with a possible area (small loop) especially for learners so they could be coached and gain experience, because they wanted to have a go as well.

To finish we need officials – there is a Race Secretary and Scrutineers course being held in Mandurah by the Classic Club 0n 2nd May (details on website). Please make the effort to get some qualifications to assist and finally WE STILL NEED A VENUE FOR MAY, PLEASE HELP.

THANK YOU TO EVERY ONE WHO ORGANISED AND ASSISTED DURING THE EVENT AND THOSE WHO HAD THE FAITH IN US TO ATTEND

Next event probably weekend 16-17 May (to be confirmed)
